THE PROBLEM

Colombia’s 50-year conflict has killed 70,000 people and displaced nearly four million others, making it the worst chronic humanitarian crisis in the Western Hemisphere—second in the world only to Sudan. Talk to the people of Colombia and you will be hard-pressed to find a family who cannot tell of how violence has affected their lives.

Yet their stories, and the stories of so many other families, will go unheard. Learn more.

WHY REMEMBER ME?

The victims of this conflict deserve to be heard. At Remember Me: Voices of the Silenced in Colombia, you will hear stories of struggle and courage from the victims of violence themselves. As U.S. citizens we hold tremendous power to promote peace. After hearing our Colombian neighbors’ stories, you will be asked to take action to help end the conflict in Colombia and ensure U.S. support for peace and justice in the country. Hear the stories and let your heart be moved.

WHO MADE THE ART?

The art came directly from Colombia, created and inspired by victims of violence.

The gallery’s foundation consists of testimonies from individual victims and entire communities affected by violence in San Onofre, Sucre, and the province of Putumayo—principally from the areas of La Hormiga and San Miguel. Several Lutheran World Relief partner organizations worked to construct the gallery: Asociación MINGA, Fundación Manuel Cepeda, Agenda Caribe and Entrópico Theatre group. Accompanied by Lutheran World Relief, these organizations have spent years with these communities, working to record their testimonies, promote healing and advocate for justice. See the art.

WHERE CAN I SEE THE ART?

Remember Me is traveling around the United States for three years. From April 2010 to April 2011, the gallery will be on display in locations around the Midwest. After that it will travel to the west coast for 2011-2012 and then to the east coast for 2012-2013.
